Abstract
Compliance is a crucial factor in visual outcome in amblyopes. The aim was to compare visual outcomes in children undergoing occlusion therapy at home vs at clinic with school milieu. A retrospective study of 200 amblyopic children<15 years of age(2018-19),was conducted at a rural tertiary eye hospital. Depending on choice of parents, children either did exercises at home or at a school like clinic after admission(for at least a month). The treatment response was graded as good response if distance visual acuity improved>2 lines, moderate response if improved 1-2 lines or improved near vision & poor response if improved<1 line. Results showed 122 admitted children had good & moderate response in 64% & 27% respectively, over mean period of 4.4 months,in contrast to the 78 home therapy children who had good and moderate response in 19% & 68% respectively, over mean period of 12.8 months. We conclude that encouraging environment in amblyopia school fosters better compliance & visual outcomes.
