Abstract
PURPOSE
To study retinal structure and functional morphology in isoametropic amblyopes (IAA)
METHODS
Prospective case-control study; 50 eyes- 25 IAA; age 6-14 years and best corrected visual acuity > 6/36 [cases] and 50 eyes- age-matched controls with no refractive error [controls]
RESULTS
Cone density(CD) at 2°- significantly reduced in cases. CD was reduced in sub-group with poor visual recovery, cone spacing and dispersion index were increased. CD had significant negative co-relation with cylindrical error in temporal and superior quadrant. Central foveal thickness was reduced and sub-foveal choroidal thickness was increased significantly in cases. 48% cases had deficient color vision and contrast was significantly reduced in cases. Mf-ERG P1 wave amplitude was significantly reduced in cases
CONCLUSION
Based on our study, we recommend that AO-SLO can be used as a tool to prognosticate visual recovery in children with IAA. IAA could be a milder form of cone dystrophy patients
