Abstract
Purpose:To evaluate the ocular HOA in first-degree relatives of KC patients and to compare with normal population. Methods:Prospective study of 210 eyes of 105 family members of KC patients and 210 normal eyes of 105 control subjects were enrolled.Complete ophthalmic examination was done including BCVA,slit lamp ,IOP and fundus . Zernike coefficients were calculated up to 5th order in a 6mm optical zone. Results:The study included 61(58.1%)female and 44 (41.9%) male subjects with mean age of 31 years (range, 15–50 years) and 105 age-sex matched controls. Results:HOAs including trefoil,coma&4th order spherical aberrations were significantly greater in the relative group than controls. Conclusion:HOA are significantly greater in family members of KC as compared to controls.Refractive surgeons need to ask specifically regarding a family history of KCN.Significant amount of HOAs should be considered a caution for refractive surgeon for doing more evaluation before keratorefractive surgery
