Abstract
Purpose-To evaluate OB changes following mannitol in vitrectomized eyes & to compare it with non-vitrectomized eyes.Methods-10 eyes with IOP>40 mmHg after retinal surgery with SO injection(group 1) were compared with 10 non-vitrectomized eyes with IOP>40 mmHg(group 2).OB was measured before & after mannitol instillation.Changes in OB & IOP reduction in Group 1 were compared with Group 2. Results- Reduction in axial length was noted in both groups post mannitol. The AC depth remained unchanged in group 1 post mannitol, however increase in AC depth was noted in group 2.Post mannitol decrease in vitreous cavity depth(VCD) was noted in group 2 which was statistically significant (p 0.013).Conclusion-A significant decrease in VCD was noted in group 2 which denotes the dehydration of the vitreous body by mannitol. However,ACD remained unchanged & insignificant decrease in VCD was noted in group 1.Thus, mechanism of IOP reduction in group 1 may be due to reduction of aqueous production.
