Abstract
To evaluate the significance of axial length in the IOP and ACD change after cataract surgery. We conducted a prospective study, included 60 non glaucomatous eyes planned for Cataract surgery and divided them in 2 groups based on axial length–group A -21-22.99mm group B- 23-25mm.We measured ACD and IOP before and after surgery using optical biometer and non-contact tonometer.Statistical analysis was done using paired T-tests and unpaired T-tests.Mean pre op IOP was 16.55(SD 3.00)mm Hg and 16.48(SD 2.82)mm Hg in group A and group B,whereas mean postop IOP was 14.84(SD 1.81)mm Hg and 15.83(SD 2.38)mm Hg in group A and B.Mean pre op ACD was 3.23(SD0.27)mm and 3.20(SD 0.42)mm in group A and B ,whereas mean post op ACD was 3.46(SD 0.27) mm and 3.50(SD 0.28)mm in group A and B respectively. The reduction in IOP was significantly greater in group A (p<0.05).in conclusion, cataract surgery decreases IOP and increases ACD. The change in IOP is significant in eyes with shorter axial length.
