Abstract
Methods :Study was done by evaluating ostia of 40 consecutive post-DCR patients. 20 were External and 20 were Endonasal. Evaluation was done immediate post-op,2,4 & 16 weeks. The ostia were defined and changes in size & shape were noted in both methods with comparison was done. Marked stents were used for measurement. Intubation stent were placed & Surgical success rate were compared.
Results :External DCR patient had larger opening compared to Endoscopic DCR on immediate post-op. With the time size and shape of ostium changed. After 2 months patients operated with both methods had oval to round shape opening. Site is anterior to the middle turbinate. Size of ostium in External was >7*5 mm in 70% of cases, while size in Endoscopic was >5*4mm in 80% of total surgery.
Conclusion : In this study we have compared changes occuring in the size and shape of ostium in both Methods of DCR. Coming to conclusion ,External has more success rate in case of size of ostium to Endoscopic DCR
