FP0422 : AN ENLIGHTENING CASE OF ETHAMBUTOL INDUCED OPTIC NEUROPATHY

Abstract
Ethambutol is a first line drug used in the treatment of tuberculosis.It can produce ocular toxicity including optic neuropathy. Reporting a case of 67 year old female who presented with painless,gradually progressive loss of vision in both eyes for 1 month.She was on ATT(Category A) for 6months(Isoniazid 75mg,Rifampicin 150mg,Ethambutol 275mg).On ophthalmological evaluation,BCVA in both eyes were 1/2/60.Fundus examination revealed mild temporal disc pallor in both eyes.OCT and visual fields were within normal limits.VEP study showed prolonged P100 latency bilaterally with axonal involvement on left side,suggestive of bilateral optic nerve involvement.Patient was given neurotrophic drugs for 3months and ethambutol therapy was stopped.After 3months,patient had BCVA of 6/60.
