Abstract
Methods: This hospital-based prospective observational study included 22 patients(14F&8M) of optic neuritis. Detailed history, ophthalmologic, systemic examination, blood investigations, chest x-ray and CT scan of brain was done. Intravenous methyl prednisolone given for 3days followed by oral prednisolone for 8 week & patients were examined on week 1,4 & 8.
Results: mean age was 12±3.3 (6-48 yrs). Optic neuritis was seen63.66% in female as compared to36.36% in male. Visual outcome increased after use of steroid in subsequent week. Visual acuity of > 6/18 was gained in 15 patients (9 F,6 M) after 8week. Visual outcome was good in 6 to 18 age group.
Conclusion: visual outcome improved after using steroids in various age groups and recurrence rate was also reduced.
