Abstract
Aim: To study the clinical profile and predictors for final visual outcomes in children (≤16 years) with Traumatic Hyphema in a tertiary eye care hospital. Methods: A prospective cohort study was designed between January 2018 to May 2019 to evaluate children (≤16 years) with traumatic hyphema. Data were collected based on demographics, mechanism of injury, initial visual acuity (VA), associated risk factors, medical or surgical intervention, secondary complications, and final VA at 6 months. Results: 79 children (79 eyes) were studied; mean age at injury 7.9+/-3.8 yrs with no gender predilection. The majority of injuries (67.3%) resulted from non-projectile mechanisms. 54% of cases had an initial VA <6/60 at presentation 65% had associated globe/adnexa injuries. Final VA at six months ≥6/18 was achieved in fifty-five eyes (70%).Conclusion: Poor visual outcomes are associated with younger age at injury, high IOP, posterior segment involvement, and secondary complications.
