Abstract
Descemet’s Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) is one of the most advanced form of corneal surgeries with a high learning curve. In the last few years, cornea specialists in developed nations have embraced this new technique of Endothelial keratoplasty that has distinct advantages over its predecessor (Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty ). However due to its prolonged learning curve, its acceptance among Indian ophthalmologists has been much slower. This course hopes to bridge this gap by providing course attendees with simple tips and tricks to overcome the common challenges that DMEK poses. The course instructors, who have immense surgical experience with this new technique will share pearls and simplified steps to achieve success in all steps of DMEK such as donor harvesting, Donor loading and insertion and DMEK scroll unfolding. Video and animation aids will be used to explain fine points of DMEK. Finally there will be a discussion on DMEK complications.
