Abstract
The outcome of cataract surgery after posterior capsular rent (PCR) is significantly worse if this is associated with nuclear fragments drop in the posterior segment. We describe a technique where we used a Bandage Contact Lens (BCL,) cut to a size of 9 mm with a corneal trephine, with the concave side up, as a scaffold for holding the nucleus pieces in the anterior segment after PCR. This allowed a safe and complete removal of the cataract with phacoemulsification. Epi-nucleus was also manoeuvred and brought into the concavity of BCL and emulsified. BCL was then pulled out with forceps. Cortex was removed with vitrector along with any attached vitreous, and a three-piece IOL was placed in the sulcus under irrigation cover (without viscoelastic) with reverse optic capture.
